Pilates Ring Is A Fun Tool That Will Add A Little Spice To Your Workout Routine

This Accessory Doesn't Require A Great Deal Of Coordination But Its Benefits Will Make It A Favorite

The Pilates ring is by far my favorite Pilates equipment accessory. I use it to intensify a workout and add variety to my routine. Known also as a Fitness Circle®, or as the Magic Circle, a ring can put added spice into your present routine.

This simple accessory item is a favorite because it is fun to use and doesn’t require a great deal of coordination. It’s also versatile in adding resistance to whatever body part you wish to tone. It comes in various sizes, anywhere from 10 to 14 inches, and various resistances.

Most Pilates equipment manufacturers carry their own take on the Pilates ring. Balanced Body makes a variety of styles and weights as does STOTT PILATES® and Gaiam.

Actually, you can go to your local discount store and find a ring to buy. They’re not all the same. Some are stronger and more comfortable than others. Try to have a test drive of a ring before you buy it.

The ring is generally made from a pliable metal that is in some cases wrapped in neoprene or another soft substance. The Pilates ring has two foam pads on the outside of the ring to cushion whatever body part you are using, and it might even have two pads on the inside to offer more options for resistance.

STOTT PILATES makes a Fitness Circle Lite® that I like very much. It is lightweight and fully padded and makes for a very comfortable usage.

A ring is a fairly compact and relatively inexpensive piece of equipment. It can be used to tone inner thighs, buttocks, arms and abdominals. If you have never seen one, imagine the Suzanne Somers thigh master.

She sits and squeezes for hours on end. The Magic Circle is the original thigh master. Once again, Joseph Pilates was really so far ahead of his time.

But the circle is more than just squeezing the heck out of your inner thighs. Some exercises are very subtle, like a seated lat push down, and others are a bit more intense, like placing it between your ankles for The Hundred.

Sometimes I use it simply for a more weighted feeling such as holding it between my palms during a Roll Up. Whatever your needs, a qualified instructor will be able to show you just how you can add the ring to your repertoire.

A Pilates Ring can easily be stored and used at home to create more resistance in your movements. Experiment with just how many ways you can utilize the ring and you’ll find that it becomes one of your favorite tools too.
