How To Find The Right Pilates Exercise Book When There Are Literally Hundreds Of Choices

Pilates books have taken over your local bookstore! There are hundreds of choices. Everyone, it seems, has written a book about Pilates.

If you are looking to increase your understanding of Pilates exercise by reading a book, good for you! How do you choose which is the right one? Like choosing a Pilates DVD there is some research to be done and questions to ask yourself about what your needs are.

Pilates books can be a great way to build your knowledge. Have you done Pilates before or are you a beginner? Are you a man? Are you a fitness professional? No matter where you are at, there is a Pilates book for you.

For all those first timers out there who are new to Pilates , find a book written by a Pilates professional. Someone who does nothing else but Pilates as a profession will steer you in the right direction, give you sound advice, and most importantly, stay true to the Pilates method.

Brooke Siler is owner of re: AB Pilates studio in New York City. She has a terrific book called the Pilates Body. The photos are clear and exercises are broken down into beginner, intermediate and advanced. What I love about this book is its use of imagery. Brooke gives you great things to imagine as you do the exercises.

For all you men wondering about Pilates that are looking to dip your toe in the pool, there is even a book for you. The Complete book of Pilates For Men by Daniel Lyon, Jr. has you covered. He writes about all the benefits Pilates provides for men including strength, flexibility and balance. He writes about Pilates the man and why men ought to consider more Pilates in their life.

Fitness professionals who might be looking into doing a Pilates certification can choose just about any book written by a Pilates pro. You might choose from one written by the Pilates “elders”. These are the remaining few who actually studied with Joseph Pilates directly.

Romana Kryzanowska comes to mind as does Ron Fletcher, Kathy Grant and Lolita san Miguel. They all have books either written by them or about them. A biography of any of these elite will bring insight and clarity about Joseph Pilate’s world.

Pilates books have taken off because of the popularity of this amazing method of exercise. No matter your level of expertise, grab a book and get reading. You’ll learn something new and expand your knowledge.
