Foot Pain Relief

Healthy Feet Are Happy Feet So Be Nice To Them And They'll Help Carry The Weight Of The World

Foot pain relief can bring an improved quality of life for those suffering from the nuisance of foot pain. Foot pain can be temporary or chronic and can range in severity from blisters to arthritis. No matter the ailment, you can be steps away from relief.

Foot care and treatment of foot pain falls into several different categories: topical, internal, lifestyle change and preventative.

Topical treatment is appropriate for athlete’s foot, blisters, and certain corn removal.

Internal treatment includes anti-inflammatory or anti-fungal medicine.

Lifestyle change refers to losing any extra pounds you’re carrying or wearing the right footwear.

Preventative treatment for foot pain relief is what I as a Pilates instructor focus on most. This includes exercises to strengthen and mobilize the feet. As a former ballet dancer, I have a close connection to my feet. Most of my time out of pointe shoes was spent looking at, massaging, picking at, criticizing and strengthening my feet.

Here are a few healthy feet exercises that I do on a regular basis:

• Towel crunch : Lay a towel on the floor and pick up one end with your toes and let go of it. Pick up the next portion of the towel and let go. Start scrunching it towards you until the whole towel is in a pile in front of you. Repeat with your other foot.

• Alphabet : Use a towel or an exercise band. Holding the towel in your toes, write the alphabet in the air. Gripping the towel as you move your ankle ensures the use of your whole foot.

• Doming : Place your foot flat on the floor. Without lifting your toes, scrunch and pull back your toes, then release. Imagine pulling your toes closer to your heel and using all the muscles on the bottom of the foot. Repeat 5-10 times each foot.

• Toe stretch : Spread and stretch your toes as wide as you possibly can, and then release. Try to put some space in between your toes. Repeat 3-5 times each foot.

• Strengthening and stretching your feet and toes will help with foot pain relief, and it feels good too! Making your hard working feet feel good is a great way to revive a tired body. Massage is something that you can do yourself, or pay for a professional massage therapist to work it out.

Foot pain relief is only a matter of spending some time with them. Be nice to your feet! They hold you up, move you around, get you here and there and help you carry the weight of the world. Take the time now to prevent foot pain later.
